A hot date in Indonesia
On the Kinkerstraat in the West area of Amsterdam, you’ll find this inviting, split-level Indonesian café. Enter through the large glass facade and you will be met with the central bar. Start with a Bobby Gin and Tonic to orient yourself to the Indonesian palate. But don’t expect a traditional Dutch-Indonesian Rijsttafel here. You can order from a menu full of smallish but beautiful Indonesian bites such as, gado-gado and daging rendang.
The rich dishes are prepared by a couple of real Indonesian tantes, who know how to prepare a proper bumbu. You must try the mackerel lemper and satay kambing. Sail away to sunnier places with a hot date or a small group of friends; this beloved Amsterdam spot has become a favourite for those living nearby, and also those willing to travel for some authentic Indo food that’s not all too easy to come by. Amoi literally means little sister; it’s the newborn child of a seasoned entrepreneur whose parents owned one of the most famous Indonesian restaurants of Amsterdam. Selamat makan indeed!
